Yury Alpeev: "The corrugated board packaging market is under the pressure of sanctions"
The pressure that almost all Russian industries have found themselves under in the last month has not bypassed the packaging materials market, which has been affected by all types of sanctions imposed against Russia. Now waste paper collectors, manufacturers of containerboard and finished corrugated products are faced with the task of reducing the possible risks from the imposed sanctions. Therefore, in the current conditions, the organization of joint working groups and headquarters is seen as the most optimal and productive in terms of speed and effectiveness in resolving issues in the industry.

In March, a cross-industry anti-crisis headquarters was established under the League of Waste Paper Converters, in which we have taken on the task of prompt monitoring, analysis and forecasting of industry indicators.
According to the results of our survey among participants in the containerboard and packaging segments, trends towards a reduction in packaging output volumes are confirmed: more than 50% of respondents among containerboard manufacturers note a significant decrease in output in March compared to February, and predict a further decline in dynamics. Manufacturers of corrugated board and packaging note the preservation of volumes in March, and 40% of respondents predict a moderate decline in production rates in April.
The main decline is expected in the producers located in the Central Federal District, who are suppliers to transnational companies, which, in turn, announced plans to reduce or terminate their business activities in Russia.
The sales prices of products are expected to change slightly. In addition, survey participants are planning to tighten the terms of payments for the supply of products.
As for the raw material situation, 40% of the surveyed corrugated board and packaging manufacturers expect stable prices for key raw materials and materials without considerable changes.
Although it was not possible to involve all the planned representatives of the reference groups in the survey, nevertheless, about 30% of the containerboard and packaging market participants have been covered, and the results of the survey have given a fairly informative picture.
We will continue to provide all market participants with up-to-date information on the state of the industry as a whole, and in the future, with forecasts of the state of the industry for a period of one month to a year.
